SUMMIT OVERVIEW
The W.T.A.C.H. Global Leaders Summit is the only global event where international tourism executives gather together with members of the global cultural and heritage sectors to explore how best to collaborate to achieve the goal of both groups: That being, the protection and preservation of built and intangible assets, and the communities that sustain them. .
It is recognised that ‘Travel’ is the ultimate agent of soft power. Especially travel to experience other cultures and learn about local heritage. Travel enhances socio-cultural cooperation, creates citizen-to-citizen diplomacy, and it makes the foreign familiar through cultural interactions
In the modern tourism era, destinations and industry often align their branding and positioning based upon the uniqueness of its people and place such as its historical monuments or the rich cultural traditions of its peoples.
But with the growing impact of climate change coupled with a rapid increase in traveller demand we now have a responsibility to explore and find new ways to help safeguard these vulnerable assets and the visitor economies so desperately needed
The WTACH GLS is the only global tourism platform designed to explore ways to better protect the world’s increasingly fragile cultural heritage assets and the communities and custodians who are their traditional guardians.
Each Summit session will focus on building that unique crossroad where assets of the developed world can help build more responsible and sustainable visitor economies through better designed and implemented tourism plans and policies.
It is with this thought that we invite you to join representatives and colleagues from organisations like the EU Parliament, The World Bank, UNESCO, and others to play an active role in the exploration of issues and best practices that will help build a more inclusive global society through cultural heritage travel.
